Wisconsin men’s tennis split its two matches this weekend, securing a home victory over Pennsylvania before falling to Middle Tennessee State in a close finish.

The Badgers defeated the Quakers 6-1 on Friday at Nielsen Tennis Center. This marked the program’s first win over Penn in its history. The previous meeting in 2025 ended in a 4-3 loss for Wisconsin. The team took the doubles point early. Senior Josef Dodridge and junior Osgar O'Hoisin won their match 6-1, keeping their unbeaten record as a pair. Sophomores Daniel Soyfer and Chase Colton added a 6-2 win. Wisconsin then won all but one of the singles matches. Colton, Soyfer, and Dodridge won in straight sets. Freshman Jesper Freimuth won 6-2 and 6-3. O'Hoisin took his match in three sets, finishing 7-5, 4-6, and 10-2.

The team then traveled to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to face Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders entered the match with a 10-2 record and had not lost a home match this season. Wisconsin secured the doubles point. O'Hoisin and Dodridge beat Chris Edge and Tom Moonen 6-4. Senior Chema Carranza and Freimuth defeated Glan Issa and Jan Porteset 6-2. In singles, Soyfer won 6-4 and 6-3, improving his single-match record to 10-0.

Middle Tennessee State won the next three singles matches to take a 3-2 lead. Dodridge tied the match at 3-3 with a 7-6 and 6-1 victory. The final point came down to the No. 2 singles match between Carranza and Tom Moonen. Carranza lost the first set in a 7-6 tiebreak but won the second set 6-1. In the deciding set, Carranza held a 5-4 lead. Moonen returned to win the set 7-5, giving the Blue Raiders the match.

Wisconsin is now 6-6 overall and 0-1 in the Big Ten. The team has yet to record a road win this season. Head coach Danny Westerman noted the team needed to continue working to overcome the difficulty of the match. “This one stings. We need to keep working. We put ourselves in these situations so we can eventually get over the hump,” Westerman told UWBadgers.com.

The Badgers return to Nielsen Tennis Center next weekend. They are scheduled for a Sunday doubleheader against Cornell and UW-Green Bay.
