The Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in overtime at American Airlines Center on Thursday. The game featured a high volume of shots for Dallas and a late-stage shift change that defined the final outcome.
Miro Heiskanen did not record a goal in the match. His contribution came from a defensive stop that transitioned into an offensive chance. After Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg attempt, Heiskanen passed the puck to Roope Hintz. Hintz scored the winning goal on the breakaway at 3:47 of the extra period.
The scoring sequence relied on a collective defensive effort. Heika reported that a turnover by Robertson initially created the Winnipeg opportunity. Robertson then blocked the shot to end that chance. The subsequent pass by Heiskanen converted the defensive recovery into a goal-scoring moment.
Dallas relied heavily on its top two defensemen due to a lineup adjustment. Esa Lindell was scratched for the game. Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds, while Thomas Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. Lian Bichsel recorded 17 minutes and 47 seconds of ice time.
The Stars faced a deficit for most of the third period. John Johnston scored early in the second period for Winnipeg. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor added goals for the Jets to extend their lead. Hintz tied the score with a power-play goal with two minutes remaining in regulation.
Dallas outshot Winnipeg 38 to 19 during the regulation period. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves to keep the Jets within striking distance. Heiskanen finished with five shots on goal, one block, and the assist for the winning goal. Harley did not record a goal or an assist in the match.
