BYD has priced its new ultra-luxury electric sedan at approximately $300,000, a valuation that places the vehicle in the same tier as established luxury marques such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The company confirmed this week that the model will make its global debut in the United Arab Emirates, bypassing its home market in China for the initial launch.

The sedan measures roughly 5,500 mm in length, a dimension that rivals the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Hu Xiaoqing, the general manager of BYD's Yangwang sub-brand, stated that the car will serve as the company's largest and most luxurious electric sedan. This move marks a distinct shift for BYD, a manufacturer historically recognized for affordable vehicles like the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China.

Technical specifications indicate the vehicle will utilize BYD's latest advancements in battery and charging infrastructure. The sedan was spotted at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting compatibility with megawatt-level charging. Additionally, reports indicate the car will be the first model from the company to feature solid-state batteries. Stella Li, an executive vice president at BYD, previously told Carwow.es that the first solid-state battery vehicle from the brand is expected to debut in 2027.

The new model introduces design elements not previously seen on BYD vehicles, including rear-hinged coach doors. Zheng Yu, the executive general manager of Yangwang, described the car as featuring unprecedented disruptive technology, though he did not provide specific details on the engineering innovations. The Yangwang brand sits at the top of BYD's hierarchy, serving as a showcase for technologies such as the quad-motor e4 platform and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system used in earlier models.

The entry price of 2 million yuan for the new sedan far exceeds the cost of current Yangwang offerings. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The U8L, a plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUV, is currently the brand's highest-priced mass-produced vehicle, starting at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000. BYD has expanded its lineup in recent years to include entry-level EVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars under its various sub-brands.
