Apple hides working iPod in web error page

Visitors to music.apple.com can access a functional replica of the 2001 device to mark its 25th anniversary.

Apple has placed a hidden interactive tribute on its music website to mark the 25th anniversary of the iPod.

The device debuted on October 23, 2001. To access the feature, users must navigate to music.apple.com/ipod or enter any nonexistent path on the site. This action bypasses the standard error message and loads a visual clone of the original player.

Kian, an X user, identified the easter egg. The digital interface mimics the physical hardware. Clicking the on-screen buttons allows users to skip through a playlist of pre-installed tracks. The scroll wheel is also functional. Users can click and drag the wheel to scroll through the list, replicating the tactile experience of the original device.

The playlist features artists who were popular in 2001. Selecting a song plays a 90-second preview directly in the browser. No additional software is required for playback. The company has not sold a dedicated music player in years. This web-based tool offers a way for users to interact with the design of the discontinued line.

Apple Music costs $11.99 per month and is included in the Apple One bundle. The website currently serves as the primary hub for the service. The hidden page is a standalone feature separate from the subscription model. No new hardware was announced alongside the easter egg.
